Cities Working Hard to Win '98 Conference

Two Canadian regions are vying for the 1998 Winter Cities Conference. Central Canada is represented by the National Capital Region (NCR). The NCR bid is a joint effort of three Ontario cities - Ottawa, Nepean and Gloucester - and three cities in Quebec - Gatineau, Hull and Aylmer.

Gyor hotel roomsNCR bid coordinator, Sheila Pepper explained what the NCR has to offer, "We feel that working with six exiting cities in the centre of Canada puts us in a great position to have an exceptional conference. The National Capital Region has so much to offer delegates - access to federal government resources, high tech industries, foreign embassies, businesses, as well as fine winter recreation."

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories is sponsoring the bid to bring the conference to Northern Canada. Yellowknife has a reputation for hosting innovative international conferences. The city is a modern, metropolitan capital that knows how to make visitors welcome. A truly "winter city", Yellowknife demonstrates how winter can be incorporated in all aspects of city decision-making. The result is a vibrant community.

Both groups are putting the final touches on their conference packages and promise exciting bids. They are not alone, however. Chungking, China is also going after Winter Cities '98.
