The Center for Lifetime Wellness is a joint program of the University ofRochester and Monroe Community Hospital and is dedicated to improving thehealth and well-being of individuals over age 50 throughout Monroe County.The Center provides a variety of services for seniors, individuals withspecial physical and functional challenges, and organizations that servicethese populations. The program's centerpiece is a health and fitness center designedspecifically for individuals age 50 and older. Staff are trained toaddress the special needs and fitness levels of our members, and thetrainers are certified and experienced in assisting members witharthritis, heart conditions, artificial joints, high blood pressure,diabetes, and chronic back problems-just to name a few. For a modestmonthly fee individuals can become members and take full advantage of thefacility's resources which include a wide variety of cardiovascularequipment such as treadmills, steppers, computerized bikes, rowingmachines, and nordic track skiers. Also featured is a 14-piece circuit ofstrength training equipment, free weights, and a specially designed roomwhere low-impact aerobic workouts and back strengthening classes areheld.
Special health-related programs, seminars, classes, and activities arealso held regularly at the center-most which are free and open to thepublic. To help individuals research other health-related issues, theHealth Sciences Library at MCH is conveniently located next door to theCenter, and contains the latest health information and medical researchabout aging.
