  • Size

Kirkhaven's size is one of our strategic advantages: we are large enough to offer a diversity of services and yet small enough to still feel like a family. Kirkhaven provides 24 hour accommodations for 147 residents in four basic service areas: Transitional Care (which includes rehab) traditional Long Term Skilled Nursing Care, Alzheimer's Special Care, and Terminal Care or Hospice. Please click on sections that deal exclusively with each of these specialized services.

    Location

Kirkhaven is centrally located at 254 Alexander Street next to Genesee Hospital. Our courtyard and North Wing border Park Avenue, a street known for fine dining and unique shopping experiences as well as for its famous Summer Arts Festival. We are approximately 3 minutes from the 490 East exit at Goodman and the 490 West exit at South Avenue. Follow the hospital signs to Alexander Street. Our building is set back about 200 feet from Alexander Street. Visitor parking is available in front of our building. If you are coming from downtown Rochester, take East Avenue to Alexander Street and turn right. Kirkhaven is on the left just past the light at Park Avenue. There is a map available at the bottom of the RAHSA home page (www.RAHSA.com).

    Employees

Kirkhaven is special because its employees are special. Since inception, Kirkhaven has placed priority on hiring the right kind of people - people who are dedicated to quality and committed to service. We strive to make Kirkhaven a good place to work knowing that our residents will only be as satisfied and content as our employees are. Every two years we provide a comprehensive employee survey to help us get a picture of where we are doing well in supporting our employees and where we need to improve. We have approximately 250 employees (160 full time equivalent) on staff.

Education of staff is an important focus at Kirkhaven, because the abilities of the employees directly affect the quality of resident care. All six Administrative Staff members have Bachelors Degrees and four of the six have masters degrees. Among management staff members, seven have Masters Degrees. Kirkhaven is fortunate to have three fully licensed nursing home administrators on staff. Our three medical doctors on staff are all Board Certified Geriatricians. We have a total of 21 RN's, 21 LPN's, and 97 Certified Nursing Assistants who work at Kirkhaven.

Beyond formalized degrees, Kirkhaven takes great pride in its staff development office. The Kirkhaven Director of Training and Development is a Registered Nurse with a Master's Degree in Health Science Education and certification in Continuing Education and Staff Development. The Staff Development Department provides ongoing quality education programs designed to maintain or increase the competencies of all Kirkhaven employees. If you are interested in more information on employees or employment opportuninties at Kirkhaven, call Diane Stephany in our Human Resources Department at 461-1991, x3053.

Our Reflections newsletter comes out in the Fall and includes news and articles of interest to our friends and supporters. Every two months we send our Family News newsletter, to all the families of our current residents. The Family News is a cooperative effort between Social Work Department and the Community Relations Department. Every two weeks we publish an employee newsletter called the Kirkhaven Khronicle which is inserted in each employee's paycheck.
