The Gardens is a 42-bed unit forpersons whose needs have progressed to the middle/late stage level; asmaller 17-bed unit serves persons in the early/ middle stage level.Payment mechanisms include private pay, Medicaid, Medicare, and long termcare insurance. The special care units are located presently on the second floor of theHomes but will move to the first floor by 1999. Both units are securedunits designed for the care of cognitively impaired persons, particularlythose who demonstrate wandering-at-risk behavior and/or those who areoverwhelmed by the requirements of daily life tasks. The goal of each unit is to maintain individual residents at their optimumfunctioning level as long as possible by utilizing each resident's mentaland physical functioning skills.
