General Information

SIZE AND LOCATION. The Friendly Home is ideally situated overlooking beautiful Allen's Creek in the town of Brighton. We are a non-denominational, not-for-profit 204 bed residential health care facility, offering 24-hour skilled nursing care, as well as hospice care, rehabilitation care, and specialized care for those with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.

HISTORY. In 1849 a group of benevolent women formed a shelter for homeless females, which became known as the "Rochester Society for the Relief of Friendless and Homeless Females." As the Society grew, an old tavern was purchased on the corner of East Avenue and Alexander Street for their new location. The Society then incorporated under the name, "The Rochester Home for the Friendless."

As the mission of the organization evolved, and the need for services increased, the Home moved to its current location at 3156 East Avenue and became known as the "Rochester Friendly Home."

Today, The Friendly Home is an affiliate of Rochester Friendly Senior Services, an organization established to help broaden services available to seniors in the Rochester area. Rochester Friendly Senior Services' mission is to provide a continuum of housing, health care, and community services. Other Rochester Friendly Senior Services affiliates include Friendly Senior Choices, a care planning service; Cloverwood; Linden Knoll; and Traditions in Caring. (For more information on these affiliations, please click on categories at left.)

Although our name has changed over the years, the sentiments and philosophy that first inspired the original Society have remained constant. From an organization that sheltered homeless women to an organization committed to providing a continuum of care to older adults, The Friendly Home has always been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those we serve.
