Terminal Care and Hospice

"Time is not a question of length, is it, it's a question of depth, isn't it?"

  • -Dame Cicely Saunders
Founder of the Modern Hospice Movement

Hospice is a philosophy of care which focuses on all aspects of comfort: physical, social, spiritual and emotional. It incorporates symptom and pain management to maximize the quality of life for those at life's end stage.

At The Friendly Home, hospice care is provided in partnership with the specialists at Genesee Region Home Care. Members requiring hospice care can stay right in their rooms, and take part in activities around the Home as they are able. Primary care continues to be maintained through The Friendly Home interdisciplinary team. This team includes nurses, home health aides, social workers, physical, speech and occupational therapists. The primary care physician also continues in his/her role. Additionally , the Member and family benefit from services offered by the hospice social worker, medical director, the pastoral care coordinator, hospice volunteers, and the bereavement coordinator.

For more information on The Friendly Home's hospice program, see Skilled Nursing Services, or call Mary Dibble at 381-1600.
